the pool and the beach

hi and hello

celia and effie rose pooled every day whenever we weren’t driving to see the sights or IMG_7226IMG_6636IMG_5956going to get me a hawaiian shaved ice somewhere [i ended up getting 5]. it was usually pool first and then beach a while too. the pool was open from 8am to 10pm and after dark the IMG_6463IMG_6624IMG_6498water would seem even warmer. the girls enjoyed pooling when it was to dark to beach. sara rented snorkel stuff and they all would try to find the right beach and water a while. the closest beach was po’ipu beach. to the left was the big IMG_6187IMG_6212IMG_6469wave area with surfing and boarding going on all day. the kids tried the beach there but it was a bit rough and rocky. to the right there was an area that was protected from the waves and a great place to snorkel and just play beach. there were plenty of people with the same idea, enjoy the beaches of kauai. i saw a monk seal sleeping nearby too. between the pool and the nearby beach i would say half the girls awake time was in the water. yup. it was a damn good reason to visit kauai. signed: meken47.

and where we stayed

hi and hello

thanks to teresa [our travel pal] we were put into the aston at poipu kai at the south end of kauai we got a 3 bedroom condo with housekeeping and major appliances IMG_6414IMG_6059IMG_6239too. it would be our base of operations for 8 days and 7 nights. yup. with a car via hertz we could go anywhere on kauai in about an hour and know we had a nice place to IMG_6410IMG_6398IMG_6789return to and a refrigerator filled with food via sara. we had 2 pools to choose from, both were a 2 minute walk and then the beach was just a few minutes further. there were some big waves spots and some no wave spots, all were a delight. when ram awoke early it was great to IMG_6778IMG_6449IMG_7286walk down to the beach before sunrise and be able to go into the water. the pool was always warm and most of the time the girls had it to themselves. would hate to imagine being in  a big hotel [hyatt or sheraton] and pooling with a hundred strangers. the aston was the place for us. each day someone pooled and beached, each day everyone had a great time just relaxing in between outings. thanks aston. yup. signed: meken47.

sara made me do it

hi and hello

almost every friday we early eat and usually its at a familiar place. getting to a new place 1001869_676522369028570_21120420_n942391_676522389028568_676551862_nis just not extra easy for me. yesterday sara suggested and got us to go to la azteca in atwater for lunch. she had yelped it and it was one of the places she wanted to try so she sent us to do it for her. yup. hard to new mexican place as i have a thing for la estrella [see blogs dated 9-22-12 9-23-12 and 10-05-12]. still an easy mexican lunch is never a bad thing and la azteca turned out to be 998501_676522565695217_1834302433_nsomething special too. i had an embarrado w/chicharron and rice beans and it was terrific. toni tried the chicharron in a burrito. it was a nice easy place to eat with extra tasty food. i doubt i will put it in front of la estrellaa on my fav list but i know that given the chance i will la azteca again soon. it was that good. yup. signed: meken47.

so i hi yo-ed silver-ed

hi and hello

made a point of seeing the lone ranger last night with about a dozen others, i went in with low expectations but came out happy enough as lone and silver charged around thth-2while the william tell overture played. that alone made it a movie worth seeing. i know i had watched many of the tv episodes and have memories of lone and silver hi yo-ing away with tonto. yup. the movie is for people who never watched the series as tonto seems to be on a drug induced trip most of the time and john reid who had not used a gun in 9 years becomes a super shot. yea its a movie. old old tonto is telling his story to a masked kid [hmm] and we th-1see how he met lone in flashbacks of sorts. tonto is trying to exorcise demons from his youth and lone knows that butch cavendish killed his brother and wants to catch him and bring him to justice [hah]. butch is one bad ass and while he could of been killed a few times he is saved until the grand finale. so like the tv lone is almost killed and saved by tonto and they go after butch. it turns out the guy building the railroad is also a baddie and he has the hots for lone’s sister in law [lone used to love her] rebecca. the grand finale is about trains all heading toward disaster with tonto and lone trying to save rebecca and her kid while railroad guy and butch and an army commander try to get away with 63 million dollars worth of silver ore [yea – aint gonna happen]. its jump around the train and escape time before getting to the blown up trestle. silver has an important part in the movie as he saves the guys a few times. there is a scene with silver standing in a tree i do not understand]. so should lone take off his mask and be with rebecca or should be go hi yo silver-ing around with tonto? as there will be no sequel perhaps he should of picked rebecca. yup. i had a good time watching it and when it worked it worked well. the trouble is there were a lot of moments when it didn’t. yup yup. i think perhaps i will just read the lone ranger comic books as they seem a little bit more safe and sane. yup again. signed meken47.

we still eat out on elizabeth day

hi and hello

every other wednesday elizabeth comes up to clean up after us, she has been doing it for years and years and we have been going out to breakfast for years and years. just a chance IMG_5105IMG_5108IMG_5109to coffee and eggs to start the day. once in a while we will new place but most often its IMG_5110pollys or ihop or carrows, today was dennys day and we had a good one. 3 refills of coffee show the waitress is checking on us. yup. so for $6.99 i had eggs/sausages/pancakes/hash browns/an english muffin /which was to much but still a very nice breakfast. it is fun to watch folks come in and out at 8am as maybe they are having their own elizabeth day. yup-maybe. once we finish the topic is usually about where we will go next elizabeth day. hmmm. might just repeat at dennys. signed: meken47.

more then a slight improvement

hi and hello

had my best movie watching month of 2013 and now am averaging a movie a week plus, spent some extra time watching things via the dvr [9 movies – thanks tcm] and was able to get 15 for the month. none of the new releases were extra special. my 15 movies were: buses roar / resiting enemy interogation / satan met a lady / the return of peter grim / homicide / outward bound / epic / man of steel / this is the end / hansel and gretel witch hunters / the girl in the black stockings / world war z / dial 1119 / the incredible burt wonderstone [and[ the psychopath. buses had nazis planing to blow up a bus to cause major sabotogue. enemy told of pilots who thtalked to much and helped the nazis. satan was a version of maltese falcon but with the horn of roland as the item. grim had a guy return after death to right things. homicide had a cop looking for killers during a vacation. outward has passengers on a ship on their way to heaven. epic was about leaf men [see blog dated jun 15] saving the forest. man was the reboot of superman [see blog dated jun 28] end was about james franco and friiends trying to survive the rapture and get to heaven. hansel was how the grown up siblings have become witch hunters. stocking was about pretty girls getting killed in kaneb utah while lex barker [tarzan] helps. world war z allowed brad pitt to save what was left of the world after fast zombies attack.  dial had a crazed killer killing as he has hostages in a bar [see blog dated jun 27]. burt had las vegas magicians trying to get the magic back in the old act. psychopath was written by robert bloch [psycho] and also had mother son issues. hmmm. dial 1119 was actually my favorite movie, very noir and very well done. my least fav was grim which was just a little bit worse then man of steel. still takes time to dvr things but will try to continue the extra viewing, still cant just be a movie but a movie worth wanting to see. yup.
