hi and hello
being home safe is always a good thing, spending a week in kauai was a good thing too. had a wonderful time with sara – alex – celia – effie rose – ramone – toni. it was the perfect getaway. i can not think of a better place to have a better end of summer vacation. i had good times and know that the memories [and photos] will last everyone for quite a while. hope there will be other adventures ahead but kauai 2013 was just so much fun it will be hard to find something better. bye kauai and thanks. signed: meken47.
hi and hello
the beaches of kauai were all great sights to see. i enjoyed walking at poi’pu beach nearby and photo-ing the waves. could almost see a turtle riding the waves too. the q’s just about played beach every day. on our trips we stopped to look at a few and also found salt pond state beach and played there. the beaches of kauai just seemed a little bit more special then the local ones. i had a great time looking around and photo-ing. that way the memories will last forever. yup. i think my favorite beach adventure was with the q’s chasing after glass beach, on a unpaved road behind a chevron refinery and watching the sunset and looking for bits of glass just seemed like the right thing to do. effie rose and celia found some nice colored glass to bring home for me to save. yup and thanks. signed: meken47.
hi and hello
with our rented dodge grand caravan license kas 540 we had a nice time driving up and around kauai. we went somewhere over 400 miles and used up a tank and a half of gas [$4.59]. we went to see beaches, waterfalls, the canyon, a fern grotto and all around the airport too. even at home i often take road photos so it was great being in kauai and taking even more. plenty of nice sights and plenty of different ones too. just nice to drive. we would go on highway 520 to highway 50 then highway 550 to the west and highway 520 to the 50 to the 56 to the east. sara and alex did most of the driving, i just played shotgun and was the official photographer. yup. signed: meken47.

one of our big road trips was to see waimea canyon, which while it was not grand it was a very large and a great to see canyon. up a windy road we easily found it. having seen the grand canyon there is no comparrison but it certainly was a beautiful sight. walked to the lookout spot and played photo, it is one of the must see places to see in kauai. we were not alone as the parking lot filled and buses were coming too. and yes there were chickens too. after photo ops we headed down and back to the pool and/or the beach. yup. another drive got us to opaeka falls, not the biggest or the best but one to see and photo too. only a 40 feet drop but right off the highway and we pictured and pictured it some more. toni had wanted to see at least one waterfall in kauai and it turned out to be opaeka. on a trip north we stopped to see kilauea lighthouse from afar, it was inside a wildlife sanctuary and we did not think it was worth $20 to get a closer look. photo-ing works and it was a picture postcard view. there were beach stops in between and other to look at places but a canyon, waterfall and lighthouse were worth the time and the gas. yup. signed: meken47.

one of the e-ticket attractions in kauai is the fern grotto and we made it there with effie rose and celia. it was a 20 minute ride from our home base and we were boated to the grotto via smith’s tropical paradise. cost us $54 to be taken to the grotto, along the way we were entertained by singers and dancers. the girls [and me] were shown the basic hula steps. the entire tour took just under 90 minutes and we were dropped off at the grotto and walked up and then had a few more songs [hawaiian wedding song] and photo opps. celia liked the thought of having a wedding here. i am sure she will keep it as a possible when the event happens. just like everywhere else in kauai there were chickens roaming around. the grotto is just a lush area with a cavern in the middle. glad we went and found it. we had a lot of hours in kauai and using a few of them to fern grotto was well spent time. yup. signed: meken47.
hi and hello
spent 8 days and 7 nights in kauai, went somewhere every day and ate at a few of the restaurants. had hawaiian ices and lots of sara food. went to see this and that and it all ended up being just about perfect. here are the 10 most fun things that happened. [no special order] 1] having 5 hawaiian ices [watermelon/banana/pineapple/pink lemonade/pineapple/ vanilla & grape. 2] sara food [she played cook] 3] going to the fern grotto via smith’s tropical paradise [celia liked the idea of being wed there] 4] surviving being strung by a bee. 6] seeing the waimea canyon 7] sara’s lost tablet and i-phone adventure 8] having chili fries w/beans at bubba’s 9] watching happy all the time ramone 10] watching the sunset at glass beach with the q’s and looking for bits of colored glass [effie found some nice ones]. these were the fun things, we were always doing something and i could keep on telling about ALL the fun things and places that we did and saw. these were some of the things i do not want to forget about. yup. signed: meken47.
hi and hello
celia and effie rose pooled every day whenever we weren’t driving to see the sights or going to get me a hawaiian shaved ice somewhere [i ended up getting 5]. it was usually pool first and then beach a while too. the pool was open from 8am to 10pm and after dark the water would seem even warmer. the girls enjoyed pooling when it was to dark to beach. sara rented snorkel stuff and they all would try to find the right beach and water a while. the closest beach was po’ipu beach. to the left was the big wave area with surfing and boarding going on all day. the kids tried the beach there but it was a bit rough and rocky. to the right there was an area that was protected from the waves and a great place to snorkel and just play beach. there were plenty of people with the same idea, enjoy the beaches of kauai. i saw a monk seal sleeping nearby too. between the pool and the nearby beach i would say half the girls awake time was in the water. yup. it was a damn good reason to visit kauai. signed: meken47.
hi and hello
thanks to teresa [our travel pal] we were put into the aston at poipu kai at the south end of kauai we got a 3 bedroom condo with housekeeping and major appliances too. it would be our base of operations for 8 days and 7 nights. yup. with a car via hertz we could go anywhere on kauai in about an hour and know we had a nice place to return to and a refrigerator filled with food via sara. we had 2 pools to choose from, both were a 2 minute walk and then the beach was just a few minutes further. there were some big waves spots and some no wave spots, all were a delight. when ram awoke early it was great to walk down to the beach before sunrise and be able to go into the water. the pool was always warm and most of the time the girls had it to themselves. would hate to imagine being in a big hotel [hyatt or sheraton] and pooling with a hundred strangers. the aston was the place for us. each day someone pooled and beached, each day everyone had a great time just relaxing in between outings. thanks aston. yup. signed: meken47.
