gee the superman / zod fight sure wrecked metropolis

hi and hello

waited until after the weekend to see man of steel, it seems like everyone else did too as the theater was almost filled and i ended up sitting in the closer rows. it did not make the thth-1movie better or worse, the movie just about did that by itself. i have seen every other superman movie and i think this one was the least satisfying. there were many things that did not work for me, i waited throughout the movie to find out how superman shaved as it starts with a bearded clark kent, i did not th-3th-2like how lois lane /amy adams so easily tracks down clark kent/superman too. nope. so i discovered that kal-el was a natural birth and that he is the holder of all krypton [confusing] inside of him. wow. when i first saw the transformers movie i had trouble figuring out the fights and man was just about the same. the slamming through buildings were just blurrs most th-4of the time. my guess is that billions worth of destruction occurred due to the zod/kal-el/superman/clark kent fight. oh well. there were pieces in the movie i liked but i did not like the movie. the movie starts on krypton, gives us the chance to see general zod, a real bad ass. jor-el sends little kal into space and we miss the growing up years, just see clark saving pete ross [a future ihop employee of the month] saving people on drilling platform but unable to keep pa kent alive. have no idea if he graduated smallville high or kansas state university, hmmm. super reporter lois lane [hah] tracks him down as does general zod, [you'd think the kryptonians could make a better phantom zone] so that just leaves the fights where they mess up smallville and then move on to metropolis to semi destroy it. only because jor-el [killed by zod 33 years earlier] tells lois how to stop zod are the kryptonians defeated. so sups and zod get a one on one fight which must last 15 minutes and its only after sups primal screams and kills zod [did sups ever knowingly kill anyone in the other movies?]. so of course it ends okay with clark getting hired at the daily planet by perry white [maybe because he was a real fast typist] so he can be near his lois as they await the next movie. man of steel has its moments, just none that took me somewhere that i wanted to get to. nope. signed: meken47.

had an epic morning

hi and hello

while everyone was at the theater to see man of steel i went to see epic with effie rose and celia. i know i never went to a movie with my grandparents and hope that it will be MV5BMTgyNDYwNzE5NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzUyODM5OA@@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_something the girls will remember. epic has been around a few weeks but this was the first chance we had th-1to see it. made the 9am screening at the amc 16 in burbank but there was no one to turn on the on button and it was 930am before we even got to see the previews. yea. watching celia and effie rose th-2intently watch something is special. the movie about a gal name MK who has issues shrinking to leaf size to help keep the forest alive and well was sort of fun. yea. it as not the best animated movie ever but it did have its moments. the look of the movie was better then some of the story. it did pass along the message and there was never any doubt that the leaf men would do their thing and help save the forest and that MK would work out things with her very absent minded dad, well perhaps not absent minded but certainly stuck in his own world. yup. seeing that celia and effie rose had a good time was the best part. i can not wait to take them to see something else. they were the most anxious ones as we had to sit aaround for 30 minutes waiting for things to start, at least they got to see previews for smurfs, despicable and planes. heck any movie event with celia and effie rose is epic as far as i’m concerned. yup again. signed: meken47.

just tire-ed and crazy doing it

hi and hello

there are many choices of where to take your car to get a new tire or a rotation or an alignment. i choose one nearby [wont mention the name] as it was by a starbucks where i could sit and wifi for the hour i expected it to take. oh yea i was getting an thalignment as the car was drifting hard right for the last few days. got there at 905am and had what seemed to be the slowest counter guy, took over 15 minutes before he finished with a guy and started me. i was told it would take 90 minutes [blah blah] which sounded a bit long but once an event begins its best to see it done. so after walking to starbucks for a coffee and hmmm good marble cake i returned after 90 minutes to see my car nowhere in sight. nope. they were cruising the streets making sure i had told them the truth. so after 2 hours they finally started the alignment which seemed an extra long time to me. yea. then another test drive and then they asked to play rotate the tires as it still was leaning right. and only after another another test drive did they say it was done and all was well. so after 3 hours and lots of pacing and waiting i was able to pay and escape from the un-named tire place. it was just that kind of a tire day i guess. hmmm and yup. signed: meken47.

stayed up late on a school night

hi and hello

it is worth seeing a movie that offers a great q & a no matter what the movie is.  i had first th779718265seen summer school jan 15 1988 and it was a lot of fun. seeing super slackers wasting their time and teacher freddys shoop’s too was typical of movies of that time. the movie has not gotten better with age but it was still great to finally see it on a big screen and hear from most of the cast how much fun they had making the movie. 7 of the cast members were there telling about playing simon says with director carl reiner and and what a great guy mark harmon was and what a potty mouth kirstie alley had. they offered so many stories [an hours worth] that made the th-1th-3th-2movie even better [well just a little better]. summer has kids who need to retake a remedial english class but they would rather being doing anything else just like gym teacher shoop. when they trade promises to finish up the class the usual adventures occur, a wild party, misunderstood student teacher feelings, horror guys lusting for the a pretty french foreign exchange student and the vice principal hitting on history teacher kirstie just like freddy does. [wonder who she will end up with]. summer school is 100% fun and while there were some great parts there were some gee whiz ones too. the screening was a birthday gift to the moderator brian who by quoting scenes from the movie made it obvious just how special it was for him. there is no better reason then being a super fan of a movie and getting it as a birthday gift. thanks new beverly for letting me summer school once again. yup. signed: meken47.

may was another nothing month

hi and hello

movie watching is not picking up, once again was only able to see 5 new movies and unless things get better i may not get 75 for the year. saw 2 in theaters, started one at the red cross and finished it on showtime, saw a new one at the new beverly and picked one thimagesvia ppv that was pretty hmmm. my 5 june movies were: 42 / salmon fishing in the yemen / red rock west / star trek into darkness [and] errors of the human body. 42 was good but i expected much more. salmon was a donate movie but as i did not finish it with only 5 minutes left finding it on gave me the chance to see it. saw red along with kill me again [see blog dated may 15] and it was the best one last month. star [see blog dated may 21] also was a disappointment. errors was a confusing science movie and would be the worst one. yea it was a nothing month. sooner or later things will pick up; or not but will just keep on looking for the right movie for a while. yup. signed: meken47.

ramone the water kid

hi and hello

got lucky yesterday and had a surprise visit from ramone. his mom wanted to give him a IMG_4234IMG_4236quickie rinse and we discovered he was still sink size. yup. once again i get the chance to photo him and show just how cute/fun/special he is. yup again. i would call ramone a water kid as he just can not get enough wet time. he is happy to wash his hands, to water the lawn, to drink the stuff and enjoy ever water occasion he can have. thats our ramone. the rinse did not take long but he was fine with that as he liked having water poured IMG_4240and more poured over him. for me the best part was the chance to photo him as he bathed, after he bathed and after that too. there is no doubt that he had another one of his special good times. yup once more. also its nice to see him combed hair too. signed: meken47.

cinema day

hi and hello

i figure it was meant to be that i saw cinema paradiso at the new beverly cinema. IMG_4201thcathie had mentioned a showing at the academy of motion pictures in august the same day i came across it playing on the movie channel [yes i have it again]. i know that i had seen the movie around 1990 after it won the oscar for best foreign film that year and have good memories about it. when the new beverly added it to their schedule i knew i had to re-see it. watching it on a big screen was th-1th-3wonderful, the screening was a longer version and i know there were added scenes that pushed the story along and made it even better [yup]. cinema tells of toto growing up in a small italian village after ww2 where the main event is watching movies at the cinema paradiso. he becomes obsessed to be around and th-4th-2pushes his way into helping alfredo the theater’s projectionist. the two bond and toto learns the job and takes over when a fire blinds alfredo. toto’s love of movies and alfredo’s guidance is something special. when older toto discovers elena he becomes obsessed and thinks only of her. events keep them apart and toto takes alfredos advice to leave not look back and make a life for himself. 30 years later toto has become a famous movie director, and returns to the funeral of his beloved alfredo. the extended version shares details about elena that were new to me but makes the story even more special. the ending with the 4 minute montage of the deleted love/kiss scenes is about as good as it gets. re-seeing cinema paradiso was special, watching the extended director cut version made it an even better film [yup]. i guess i was meant to see it again and did have one of my best cinema days ever. thanks new beverly. yup again. signed: meken47.
